Solo Por Hoy has a permanent housing program through housing vouchers for families who spend the night on the street. Assistance through these vouchers is known as the “Rapid-Re-Housing Program”, a model of assistance for a period of 24 months in which the family achieves emotional and economic stability. Individuals and families are selected through the Coordinated Entry System and, if accepted into the program, an individualized plan is worked out for them that includes progress evaluations, personal empowerment, life skills development, financial counseling and psychological therapy, all with in order to achieve stability in permanent housing.
Outreach programs of Solo Por Hoy are known as “Peer to Peer” or Peer programs. This methodology is implemented with the hiring of recovered individuals who work in the community outreach area, facilitating the process through personal identification with the program participants.
The outreach program has two components:
El primero es la unidad móvil conocida como Camino a Casa, que sale en una ruta semanalmente a dar servicios de manejo de caso en área de alta incidencia de personas sin hogar. Sirviendo a las personas en su entorno para lograr la obtención de servicios esenciales como la reforma de salud, tarjeta de asistencia nutricional y el TANF y referidos a algún modelo de vivienda que proteja la integridad de las personas. Esto incluye: Albergues de Emergencia, Vivienda Transitorias, Vivienda Permanente entre otras.
The second is the nocturnal outreach route where a team of outreach facilitators goes out to high incidence areas to offer emergency services, food, hygiene, food and referrals to the Coordinated Entry System office.
Right to Housing – Youth
This program aims to improve and increase access to services for young people in vulnerable situations. Its main objective is to develop initiatives and projects that address the needs of young people at risk of losing their homes or who are already experiencing homelessness within the community.
Currently, the program is structured into several key components:
Youth Homelessness System Improvement (YHSI – HUB)
This component provides direct assistance to young people between the ages of 18 and 24 facing homelessness. This includes young people who are literally homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, or who have experienced episodes of housing instability over time. The program works in coordination with various services to ensure comprehensive and sustained support.
Office on Violence Against Women - Children and Youth (OVW - C&Y)
This program is designed to support young victims and/or survivors of domestic violence, with an emphasis on the 18- to 24-year-old age group. It also includes preventive intervention for children as young as 10 years old, focusing on trauma and its short- and long-term effects. The goal is to provide a safe, violence-free environment that allows these young people to rebuild their lives.
Youth Advisory Board (YAB)
The YAB is a youth advisory committee comprised of young people between the ages of 18 and 24, 77% of whom have experienced homelessness or domestic violence. The remaining 23% are young community professionals with extensive experience working with vulnerable populations. This diversity strengthens their role as a bridge between organizations, service providers, and affected youth, bringing an authentic perspective to the design of sustainable solutions.
YAB's mission focuses on promoting social mobility as a right and an urgent need. Youth homelessness not only represents a humanitarian emergency but also a structural barrier that limits access to education, employment, and emotional stability. Through its work, YAB seeks to break these cycles of poverty and social exclusion, generating real opportunities for young people to fully develop and reach their full potential.
In addition, the committee promotes education and public awareness as key tools to prevent homelessness and foster supportive environments that facilitate upward mobility.
Solo Por Hoy has a recovery program which provides assistance to people who have lost their homes due to a natural disaster and do not have the resources or a safe and stable place to live. It evaluates individuals and families to assess the needs of each family and establish an individualized plan that results in a housing placement. We have short and medium term Housing Vouchers from ESG funds throughout the Island.
